“One can choose to go back to safety or forward toward growth. Growth must be chosen again and again. Fear must be overcome again and again.” ~ Abraham Maslow
You Can Make Changes
It’s never too late. You can make changes. Change begins with you!
Do you find that it’s easier to go through life just accepting things as they are, even as internally you may be dissatisfied with your results?
If your answer is Yes, you’re not alone. Many people feel the way you do.
It’s just safer. It’s easier to go with the flow.
But…Stop for a moment. Imagine that you’re standing above and looking down at the various areas of your life. What do you see? What are you thinking?
Jim Rhon said that we are the average of the five people we hang around. Think about the people in your life, especially the ones you’re closest to or spend the most time with?
Are they people who lift you up so that you’re a better version of yourself every day? Or are they people who are negative and drag you down with their negative chatter?
Think of your finances. Is it everything you wanted it to be and hoped it could be? Does where you stand right now with your finances make you wish things were different?
Does it create a hunger within you to have more, not from greed but from necessity? Does it prompt you to become wiser in how you handle your finances? It’s not too late to make changes as long as you’re alive to do so.
Are you happy with your job? Many people are miserable in their jobs yet they take no action to make changes. How about you?
Fear Holds People Back
Fear can be paralyzing! It comes in different shapes and sizes. It can be fear of failure; it can be fear of success. A common one is fear of what others may say.
David Foster Wallace reportedly said,
“You'll worry less about what people think about you
when you realize how seldom they do”.
What if you decided to adopt that mentality that you’ll worry less about what others say?
Acknowledge that change is hard. Yet, living a life that’s not in alignment with your values, and tolerating what does not make you happy is even harder on yourself emotionally and very often physically.
Time Passes
If you fail to make changes now, nothing will change. You will have lost time and you will have missed the opportunity to make changes during that timeframe.
If you want more out of life – if you feel that you should have more – and the unhappiness with your life sits like a rock in the pit of your stomach, then you need to take steps to make those changes.
Remaining where you are in a life you’re not happy with will lead to feelings of depression, sadness, and resignation. That hole inside of you that aches for something more, for something better will never be filled.
That’s not what you deserve. It’s not what anyone deserves. Life is not meant to be something that’s just endured. It’s meant to be lived with excitement because it’s an adventure if you decide that it is.
Change Begins With You
Many women over 50, and I like to think of us as 50 and Wiser, feel that it’s too late to make changes.
At the age of 52, I walked away from a job in corporate America that I disliked. While it paid a decent salary, I disliked what I was doing and the stress of doing something I did not like was taking its toll on me.
I began to take steps to prepare myself for work in another area and took the additional training and certifications required. It was time to leave and start on my entrepreneurial journey full time.
You may not want to become an entrepreneur. I encourage you to find what makes you happy and take the necessary steps to achieve your goal.
If you need support, I offer a complimentary “Double Your Results” breakthrough session where we focus on your goals and what you want to achieve. Reach out to me at https://50andwisercoaching.com/contact and we’ll schedule a time to talk.
Remember, “Reach for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll fall among the stars.”
Keep this in mind. It’s never too late. Change begins with you.
